AMTRAK POP-UP FOOD TRAIN
By veronica viayra, April 16th, 2012
On May 9th and 10th, Amtrak will be giving city dwellers the chance to travel through food without leaving the city. In celebration of National Train Day and the launch of their new dining car, they will have a pop-up mobile train car that will park at specific locations within the city. Fonda Restaurant Chef-Owner Roberto Sanitibanez and Amtrak Executive Chef Christian Hannah will create the regionally inspired delicacies that will be given as samples and offer cooking demonstrations to make them at home. In addition, Amtrak will give tours of the new dining car that is slated to be launched at the end of this year.
The pop-up car will be stationed at West 49th and 6th on the first day where Hannah will be preparing a Caesar Salad with Red Pepper, Goat Cheese, and Chicken at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The next day, the car will be in Union Square where Amtrak Executive Chef Daniel Malzhan will whip up a Spice Seared Salmon topped with Tropical Fruit Salsa at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. At noon on both days, Sanitibanez, who has joined the culinary team at Amtrak, will be making his signature Guajillo Marinated Shrimp with Pineapple and Cucumber Guacamole.
