ANTONIO LOPEZ: Fashion, Art, Sex & Disco

By Liz Black, September 2nd, 2012

After months of facebook teases of beautiful drawings posted by Mauricio and Roger Padilha, Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex & Disco is finally available for the masses. No fashion lover, (or coffee table), will be complete this season without a copy of the eye-popping style atlas.

Delving into the experiences and art of Antonio Lopez, the illustrious fashion illustrator, the book explores Lopez’s influence on modern fashion, as well as revealing aspects of his life. “Antonio’s work really captured the moods of the times and spring-boarded the view of fashion as an art form which reflected the cultural and social aspects of society.” explained Roger Padilha “He really connected what was going on on the streets with what people were wearing and presented fashion in this way through his work.”

Mauricio reveled exactly why they were inspired; “We decided to do a book on Antonio Lopez because not only was he an illustrator,  but he was a multi-faceted artist. Antonio was at the forefront of any media he decided to put his hands on, very much like Warhol, Antonio was a great illustrator, photographer, and Svengali.

Antonio discovered so many models who went onto receive worldwide acclaim, his photography landed on covers of many magazines throughout the 70s and 80s internationally and his art has been credited by designers such as YSL, Lagerfeld and Versace to have inspired collections.” He continued,  “Antonio was a leader in the world of fashion who deserves to be recognized by today’s and tomorrows generations.

While Lopez’s story is fascinating, the real gems of the book are the sublime illustrations (from ad campaigns to sketches of models) and never-before-seen Polaroids. Don’t be the last in the know regarding this exquisitely educational & dazzlingly decorated fashion bible.
