Who better to give you the rundown on noise bands than Sonic Youth’s own Kim Gordon? Opening today at John McWhinnie @ Glenn Horowitz Bookseller is “Kim Gordon: The Noise Paintings,” a collection of paintings based solely on the names of noise bands—like, you know, the bands Circuit Wound or Pussy Galore.
Since the exhibit will only last for a month, JMc & GHB Editions will be publishing a special edition of the works that will include an original piece of artwork and a recording, all wrapped up in a custom cloth box. Whether you call it art or artifacts of subculture (or perhaps both), the series goes to show that when it comes to noise bands, it takes one to know one.
