The Gunman, 14″ x 11″, Mixed Media

If you asked Ray Sell, he’d probably tell you that guns, booze and dreams of T&A are what little boys are made of. But thanks to the Leo Kesting Gallery in Meatpacking, you don’t have to ask. This Thursday marks the opening of Sell’s new exhibit, “Stand Yer Ground,” and it’s pretty clear that the cut-and-paste collages have a thing or two to say about the advertisements of yesteryear. All done in mixed media, the canvases depict the nuts and bolts of what goes into creating the archetypal male: television, muscle cars, gambling, and Lucky Strikes. The opening reception (with artist included) is May 13th from 7-10 pm, and the show will be on view until June 13th. Take a peek at his website to get a feel for what’s in store.
