Edun works with the Crochet Sisters in Kenya

By Erin OKeefe, February 9th, 2012

Ethically responsible fashion house, Edun, was created in 2005 with the sole purpose of creating stylish clothing while supporting business Africa. Pieces from the collection are produced in factories from Uganda and with partners such as the Crochet Sisters. Made up of about 103 women who source fabrics through local suppliers in Nairobi and play a pivotal role in the church through their crochet business, they leave a lasting impact with their handmade clothing and bags. The Crochet Sisters were founded as part of a church named House of the Covenant which created a community of self-sufficient women. Edun uses two hand crocheted pieces of theirs in each collection. The result gives the line a handcrafted feel and reminds us that socially responsible clothing can be high fashion as
well.
