GANT by Michael Bastian SS11
By Tiffany Yannetta, September 20th, 2010
It looks like love is already in the air for Spring/Summer 2011, particularly throughout the GANT by Michael Bastian lines. Yes, thats right: lines. This Fashion Week marked the debut of Michael Bastian’s first-ever women’s collection, and he couldn’t have picked more of a woman to base his designs around: the woman, Marilyn Monroe. And for the men’s line? Joe Dimaggio and Arthur Miller. As he puts it, the SS11 collection is the “unlikely combination of the sports nerd and the bombshell finding each other and falling in love.”
Though the collections are no doubt nostalgic (Bastian also drew upon Monroe’s 1953 film Niagara) they’ve stayed true to GANT’s aesthetics of easy, everyday, contemporary sportswear, with the GANT guy—energetic, preppy, athletic—always in mind, just this time with a counterpart. For the men’s collection, some of our favorites are a linen patchwork button-down and a sporty red and blue nylon baseball windbreaker, and for the girls, a seersucker dress with a lace overlay and a trench for all occasions.
