Gypsy Jewelry

Despite all the endless jewelry options out there, from the high-end to the sidewalk-sold, it’s still difficult to come across that effortless, casual necklace or ring to add some detail to an everyday ensemble. Herewith, we highlight two New York designers who have managed to create modern, earth-inspired jewelry casual enough to be worn all the time, and beautiful enough to merit so much attention.

Monique Malkowski, whose family hales from Eastern Europe, has created a collection worthy of Stevie Nicks with Silent Gypsy. The rugged, texturized necklaces display a combination of strength and elegance, with mixed metals and feminine draping. Rings, bracelets and earrings all possess a similar aesthetic—one that draws its inspiration from nature but also fits into an urban environment. Oh, and the whole line retails for under $100.

The name of Elizabeth Karas’ jewelry collection, 24Karas, isn’t hard to understand—and neither are her rustic, romantic creations. In pewters and bronzes, Karas’ line takes on whimsical imagery with elephant necklaces and rings and studs stamped with crowns. Some of her pieces can even be customized with personal initials. Though we think, with their unique quality and precious flea market-find feel, that’s hardly necessary.
