Havana Nights

Whoever decided that girls with glasses were nerdy clearly never set their sights on MOSCOT’s new MANGITO eyewear. Available as either ophthalmic frames or sunglasses, the very name of these vintage-inspired gems means sexy, hot and fresh in Cuban slang.

MOSCOT, the long-running family business, has looked back to its roots to come up with this latest edition, square-ish, thick-framed glasses available in black or tortoise shell (click here for a list of retailers who will be selling the MANGITO starting next month). The glasses ($199 ophthalmic, $229 sunglasses) are an homage to Sol Moscot’s great aunt, who left the mean streets of the Lower East side for Miami, married a Cuban man and passed the rest of her days conga dancing in Havana. Perhaps the wearer of these glasses can get a bit of this fantasy—or at least feel happy evoking Sophia Loren.
