It Gets Better Inspires During Fashion Week
By Mackenzie Gavel, February 13th, 2011
On Friday, February 11th, I had the absolute pleasure of being able to attend the “It Gets Better” Fashion Week event at the Empire Hotel in New York City. The It Gets Better Project is a worldwide movement that has inspired over 5,000 user-created videos from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including, but not limited to, President Barack Obama, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Michael Kors, Ellen Degeneres and myself with fellow CITYist blogger, Adrienne Robles.
Each guest at the event was given luxurious treatment as they were pampered by Senses New York Salon & Spa and Suvara Spray Tan, and even had the opportunity to get a professional portrait taken by celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz, before being escorted into a room to film their own personal PSA. Each message will be streamed live on the It Gets Better Website.
The videos are created in an effort to reach out to teens who have been victims of bullying and who are in desperate need of support. With over 15 million views of the videos on the It Gets Better website to date, the organization has proved that everyone can help make a difference, can lend a helping hand, can potentially save the life of a beautiful individual.
Look HERE to see Adam Lambert’s video, which I personally find to be truly inspiring.
After attending this event and filming my own PSA, I took the pledge–the pledge to spread this message, the pledge to help struggling teens and the pledge to fight bullying. And now, I’m asking you to do the same. Please visit the It Gets Better Website today and take the pledge yourself. Anyone can make a difference. Now it’s your chance.
