Like a Cat in the Dark
By Tiffany Yannetta, October 5th, 2010
We’ve always been a fan of anything and everything Kim Gordon (like the previously-featured Noise Paintings that were on display at John McWhinnie @ Glenn Horowitz Bookseller). To celebrate the fifth anniversary of downtown fashion and art label No. 6, Gordon has produced a collection of 14 single-word paintings. Similar to the Noise Paintings, which bared the name of a favorite noise band (Hair Police, Testical Hazard, Pussy Galore), each painting for the No. 6 collection contains a word chosen from a line from Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”: “she is like a cat in the dark, and then she is the darkness.” The paintings were compiled as sets in a simple black portfolio, and are available for $40 online as well at the No. 6 store (6 Centre Market Place). In addition to the prints, No. 6 also designed two tee shirts available for purchase in the same style, reading either “she” or “darkness.” Which one are you?
