Maarten Van Der Horst for Topshop
By Kayi Tsang, April 24th, 2012
Breaking boundaries and discovering new talent is what Topshop is all about and this summer, Topshop will launch a capsule collection with budding Dutch-born London-based fashion designer Maarten Ven Der Horst. This seven-piece collection will feature dresses, shirts, and shorts that capture Van Der Horst’s core aesthetic of combining textured fabrics with graphic prints and colors.
As a designer from Fashion East, a non-profit initiative that seeks to nurture emerging designers by offering them an opportunity to present a collection at London Fashion Week, Ven Der Horst has large shoes to fill in his first capsule collection with Topshop. Sponsored by Topshop, TOPMAN and the London Development Agency, Fashion East has been an important platform for the success stores of Jonathan Saunders, House of Holland, Gareth Pugh, and Marios Schwab.
Incorporating key elements of his Spring-Summer 2012 collection into this capsule collection for Topshop, Ven Der Horst uses heavy jacquard fabric in a masculine single breasted jacket, high waisted Bermuda shorts, and a Hawaiian shirt. In contrast to the boxy silhouettes and dramatic tropical prints, the collection also consists of two light silk button-down dresses that feature a bold hibiscus flower print in the midst of tropical blues, greens and burnt oranges. To complement the eye catching prints of the statement pieces, a hot pink t-shirt and black cycling shorts are must-haves to complete a outfit with this exciting summer collection.
