My Cheap, Chic College Survival Guide

By Mackenzie Gavel, August 21st, 2012

About to embark on my senior year of college, I can honestly say that I cannot wait for the beginning of the semester! I am so excited to begin taking the final steps of what has proven to be an awesome journey. But… I also anticipate many sleepless nights, full of stressful deadlines, stacks on stacks of index cards, and a clear overextension of my mind and body. Simply put, I’m DEFINITELY sleeping in on the weekends. And I plan to do so in comfort and style, while staying within my budget!

So, below I’ve put together a list–a sort of Senior/motherly care package, if you will–of must-have accessories and apparel for college students just looking for a little extra shut-eye in their lives. Enjoy!

Some cute Steve Madden thermal PJ’s to curl up in during a long night of writing papers (*cough*aimlessly tweeting about how horrible your life is right now and instagraming pics of whatever you ate for dinner*cough*). Super cute and comfortable and only $64! Trust me, they’ll be worth it.

These cute little Camper Wabi slippers ($65) are PERFECT to slip on and wear around the dorm on a lazy Sunday when you’re doing your mounds of laundry and errands that you put off all week long. Yeah, I bet you’re missing mom now.

Curl up and relax one evening with this E-Reader Case, by Betsey Johnson, ($48) in hand! Read a book, or an article for one of those classes you’re taking! Or just fall asleep in the chair and wake up the next morning pretending you did, in fact, do something productive for once in your life before bed.

And, finally, if you’re really missing home, splurge on this comfy pillow by Bar III Home ($110). Seriously. Not only is it incredibly cute and comfortable, but it will give your dorm room that little accent that it needs to say, “Hey, I’m really not a cinderblock jail cell. I’m your new home.”

So, whether you’re a freshman just starting out, or a senior-survivor like me, enjoy the recommendations on this list and, for the most part, ignore my cheeky sarcasm. College really isn’t that bad. It’s actually a blast, and a journey I will not soon forget. Wish me luck this year!
