Neo-Fashion with Neoprene

By Kayi Tsang, March 23rd, 2012

Although neoprene fabrics are commonly associated with sports gear and computer cases, fashion designers have also taken a new liking towards the use of neoprene in clothing and accessories. The flexible yet durable material is able to create comfort while having a defined silhouette in a piece of clothing. In the spring and summer season of 2012, designers such as Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, and Jimmy Choo have used neoprene in formal dresses, conventional suits, and sportswear inspired heels.

Meanwhile, CITYist has also taken a special liking for Leghila, an Italian brand that uses neoprene fabrics for a variety of fashionable handbag designs in a wide range color combinations for any occasion. Unlike a conventional leather bag that requires special care for its maintenance, Leghila’s neoprene bags are washable and can be simply tossed into a washing machine anytime you want it cleaned. Here are CITYist’s top neoprene picks of this season.
