The Dreamer, 1932. Oil on canvas 39 7/8 x 36 3/4 in. (101.3 x 93.3 cm) The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Mr. and Mrs. Klaus G. Perls Collection, 1997 (1997.149.4) © Estate of Pablo Picasso/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York.

If you think there’s nothing new to see when it comes to Pablo Picasso, then you haven’t seen the Met’s new exhibit—which encompasses the museum’s entire collection of Picasso works all together for the first time. Opening today, “Picasso in the Metropolitan Museum of Art” includes 300 paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints, from the stills and geometric shapes of his cubist period to his abstract portraits.

Due to the scope of the collection, viewers will be able to see the changing influences throughout Picasso’s career. The exhibit reflects all of the subjects you’ve grown to expect from Picasso—from an early portrait of his patron Gertrude Stein to the droll beggars of the somber Blue period and the colorful circus acrobats and harlequins of the brighter Rose period (featuring, of course, reds and oranges). Well known paintings such as “At the Lapin Agile” (1905) and “The Dreamer” (1932) are also included. For a clear timeline of Picasso’s work under the same roof, this exhibition can’t be beat.
