RACHEL ANTONOFF AND FUN. LAUNCH THE ALLY COALITION
By veronica viayra, October 17th, 2012
Designer Rachel Antonoff and hit band fun. have teamed up to create The Ally Coalition (TAC), a partnership with a mission to inspire and encourage action for and support of LGBTQ equality using the fashion, music, and entertainment communities. The Ally Coalition will have a presence in all three of these fields by working with individual members in each community to raise awareness and funds in support of LGBTQ equality.

Also, TAC will provide a platform for all “allies” of the cause to raise their voices. Because it believes that it is the responsibility of “allies” to speak up and use their influence to advocate for and fight discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning/queer people, the non-profit group utilizes social media and its website as platform for anyone to stand up and make their statement.

One of The Coalition’s first endeavors is with fun. on the upcoming REVERB Campus Consciousness Tour. The tour is presented in partnership the the non-profit group REVERB and Ben & Jerry’s and will stop in multiple colleges across the country this fall.

Both Fun. and Rachel Antonoff have been active in supporting LGBTQ equality and other civil rights issues through leading organizations such as Human Rights Campaign, Freedom to Marry, The Trevor Project, and GLAAD. Earlier this year, Jack Antonoff, fun.’s guitarist, published a powerful essay on The Huffington Post that called for straight Americans to ally themselves in the fight for LGBTQ equality. Rachel Antonoff’s company has started an initiative to donate a percentage of proceeds made from her collections to support organizations that support these same goals.
