Seven Tips for Summer Concert Survival

By Eva Medoff, June 9th, 2010

With Bonnaroo starting tomorrow and a whole slew of summer concert festivals just around the corner, we bring you the lowdown for braving the vast wilderness of musical campgrounds—and doing it in style. From killer backpacks, nature-inspired sunglasses and hipster sunblock to stylish sleeping bags, we’ve got you covered for the long, potentially showerless season ahead.

1. Get in touch with nature.

Shield your eyes from the blinding Tennessee sun (or wherever you happen to be) with Shwood sunglasses: yes, they’re actually made out of wood. The Portland-based company churns out models like this zebrawood pair ($95) from sustainably-harvested wood in Africa.

2. Sleep on the land.

This H&M sleeping bag ($17.95) from its Fashion Against AIDS summer concert line is sure to keep you protected from the elements in its tie-dyed interior.

3. Keep organized.

Everyone needs a trusty knapsack when weekending. Fit in with the peace and love spirit with this tie-dyed Dusen Dusen gem, $110.

4. Get ironic sunblock.

We all have to wear it, so why not have fun with it? Treat your sunblock like face paint with Zinka colored nose coat ($5.99).

5. Lounge in style.

H&M is really on a roll. Try out summer’s trendiest print, the Navajo pattern, on this fashionable sun chair ($12.95).

6. Keep a sunny disposition.

Even if you’re in the unlucky position of standing at an outdoor concert in the rain, keep this umbrella nearby to remind you that blue skies are just around the corner. Collapsible sky umbrella by Tibor Kalman/M&Co, $35, available at the MoMA store.

7. One can never have too many backpacks.

Well, it’s true. Especially when said backpacks are these aboriginal-inspired drawstring bags from Australian brand Worthis.
