What’s Happening This Week

By Eva Medoff, July 12th, 2010

Have You Heard? is our weekly roundup of items we may have previously missed (or would like to remind you of again). So as you plan the week ahead, take a look at our cherry-picked selections of what’s hot in art, music, film and fashion right now.

Monday

According to Solar One, a solar-powered arts center, “Civilian space exploration is still prohibitively expensive (for most of us), but intergalactic travel can be closely approximated by a simple journey to the East River on the evening of July 12th.” How is this possible? Well, there will be electronic music videos and a special audiovisual performance by the Chemical Brothers. Oh, and free Sixpoint Beer (while it lasts) to enhance the experience. 23rd Street at the East River.

Tuesday

Stop by David Burke at Bloomingdales (3rd Ave at 59th St.) for a $50 prix fixe menu paired with Sam Adams’ summery brews. Dishes include crispy oysters on the half shell, heirloom tomato salad and BBQ shrimp with bacon–all accompanied by Sam Adams’ various beers, including the summer ale and Boston lager. RSVP to Dana Vandagriff (dana@davidburke.com).

Wednesday

Vivienne Tam, who recently designed this sweet laptop, will be auctioning off clothes for up to 75 percent off starting Wednesday (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and going through Friday at the midtown boutique (W 39th between 7th and 8th). Snag shirt dresses and kimono-inspired frocks.

Thursday

Indie husband and wife team Mates of State perform at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Friday

Finally. Inception, Christopher Nolan’s much anticipated first film since The Dark Knight, opens. It’s already garnering rave reviews–color us excited.
