Wicked Cool: Wicker Bags for Beyond the Beach
By Marisa Steinberg, July 2nd, 2012
While working at my desk, mindlessly twirling my hair, the thought of lounging on a tropical beach enters my mind approximately every 37 minutes. I imagine just the standard: pool boys fanning me with palm leaves and an endless supply of perfectly mixed piƱa coladas. But what really hopelessly distracts me are all the fabrics and materials that are reserved exclusively for seaside excursions. Neoprene, mesh, wicker…the list goes on. Thankfully, designers and stylists have been sneaking these summery textures into street wear left and right this season, keeping my tropical daydreams at bay. To satisfy beach attire cravings while stuck amidst the concrete, I’m swapping out my stuffy leather satchel for a structured wicker bag, like the ones below, ASAP.

Stella McCartney Pembridge Woven Wicker-effect Satchel;$1,079, mytheresa.com
The boxy structure, chain details and wicker front manage to make even the most saturated, summery, Popsicle-appropriate shade of orange feel undeniably ladylike.

Tory Burch Woven Patent & Straw Clutch; $192.50, toryburch.com
Sleek gold interweave announces “premier”, rather than “picnic”.

Tiffany & Co. Blaine Clutch; $495, tiffany.com
Gives all the excitement of opening a little blue box -even if you’ve only got pennies inside.

Kate Spade New York Armadillo Wicker Shoulder Bag; $328, neimanmarcus.com
Beautifully bizarre, I don’t think the novelty is ever going to wear off this little guy.
