Multi-Brand Closet, Anyone?

By Ying Lam, September 28th, 2010

Innovative minds Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have just opened a multi-brand store in Milan: Spiga2. A fantastic concept and inspirational to boot, it will sell Dolce&Gabbana accessories and various young designer’s collections. The Spiga2 space is simple and sophisticated—it resembles a glamourous closet rather than a store. With brands such as Kinder Aggugini (based in London), Heather Williams (based in New York), Araks (based in New York), Fausto Puglisi (based in Milan), Girls From Omsk (based in Bruxelles) and many more, young designer’s collections from all over the world have been personally chosen by Mr. Dolce and Mr. Gabbana to be sold at their store. The fashion veterans came up with the concept because they wanted to offer newer designers from various cultures a helping hand in the fashion world. Now that’s what we call mentoring.

Molto Madonna

By Marquita Harris, July 13th, 2010

Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana have joined forces again for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2011 campaign. Shot by Steven Klein, the crisp black and white photos feature Ms. Ciccone reconnecting with her namesake’s roots, while cinematic she-wolf and Italian actress Anna Magnani plays inspiration behind the pop powerhouse’s character. Each frame represents an introspective view into a charming yet everyday Italian lifestyle: picking up items from the market with her son (think: Magnani’s flick Mamma Roma), attending Sunday family brunch, mending a skirt with granny and (a personal fave) grappling with chickens in a rosette-clad jacket. The verdict? Madonna looks beautiful, and the lifestyle is enviable. And any collection where one can rock crucifixes on the street and not look like a clergy member is kind of thrilling.

By Tiffany Yannetta, March 16th, 2010

Not only is Madonna the face of Dolce&Gabbana’s Spring 2010 campaign, but she’s also lent a hand in creating the line’s new sunglass collection, appropriately titled MDG. The collection is composed of six styles, all scheduled for a May 2010 debut, and features oversized frames and wraparound silhouettes that are perfect for sneaking around the city while trying to escape the summer heat.
